 | My first visit to Vietnam was in 2003 when I met my wife’s family. Mimi my wife, had been working in Sunderland (UK) where we first met. I never though I would ever visit Vietnam but I found it a fascinating place, for a country with such a turbulent history it’s a very relaxed place to live. Everyone walks around with a smile on their face, so they must be doing something right. Above is a typical street in Danang (Mid Vietnam) as most people ride mopeds, crossing the street on foot is a leap of faith, you just step of the pavement and walk across the road, its best NOT to do your 'Green Cross Code' all the traffic just weaves around you I found it very unnerving at first, but if you wait for a lull in traffic as here in the UK you’ll be standing there all day, as the traffic is non stop.
| | | The moped is a very cost effective method of transport in Vietnam and it’s not unusual to see unusual things on the back. This guys taking his pig to market. Across the road you can see and old style typical home. There was a lot of development and rebuilding going on in 2003 by the government with the help of The World Bank, below you can see the new style homes and roads that are being built by the government, a lot of people have their business on the ground floor and live above. | | Below is the beach close to Danang, the sand is white and clean and isn't crowed with tourists - yet! but I'm sure it won't be long. | | So a typical leisure day in Danang is to go to the beach drink beer and eat fresh fish from one of the Bar Cafes and relax. Then in the evening go riding on a moped, see below - me and my brother in-law Phong, cruising the streets of Danang. | | Below is a photo of a ‘Ghe’ (small boat) in the River Han the woman is fishing, and the range and abundance of fish is amazing, it wasn't long before she caught one.
